During the course of a typical day, we smile, frown, laugh, and wear a variety of other facial expressions. Unfortunately, the more we use our muscles to repeat these expressions, the more we unintentionally train them to stay that way. At some point, this causes our dynamic wrinkles (the ones that are temporary) to become static wrinkles (those that are permanent). Botox is an injectable used to ease, erase, and prevent fine lines and wrinkles.
Due to its versatility, convenience, price, and results, Botox has been one of the most popular cosmetic procedures available for many years. It can be used to address a number of wrinkles, including crows’ feet, glabellar lines, horizontal forehead wrinkles, chin wrinkles, vertical neck bands, and lipstick lines.

How does Botox work? Derived from botulinum toxin A, Botox blocks the release of acetylcholine, a chemical that causes muscles to contract. Blocking this chemical has the effect of weakening or paralyzing muscles, preventing overuse.
The Botox injection process is simple and short, typically taking less than 20 minutes. After the target areas of the face have been marked, local anesthesia or a topical cream may be used. The underlying muscles will then be injected with Botox. Either small or moderate amounts will be used, depending on the type and location of the wrinkle. Some locations carry a greater degree of risk and should only be targeted very precisely with extremely small amounts of Botox.
After your procedure, instead of dealing with any sort of downtime, you’ll be able to go back to your normal routine right away. It may be best to avoid heavy sun for a time, depending on your plastic surgeon’s recommendations.
A week or less after your Botox injection procedure, you should start seeing the results you’ve been looking for. Depending on the amount used, the Botox can provide beneficial effects for at least three months and up to a full twelve. If desired, you can return for more treatments to keep your results fresh.
