Labiaplasty

unspecified 2 300x200 - LabiaplastyDue to childbirth, the aging process, genetics, or other factors, many women have labia that are enlarged, loose, asymmetrical, or darker than they may prefer. Enlarged or loose labia can cause discomfort or pain while wearing certain articles of clothing and during physical activities such as sex. This condition can also result in self-consciousness and body issues. Labiaplasty is a way to rejuvenate the labia.

Labiaplasty is a method of surgically resculpting the inner and/or outer labia, or vaginal lips. The smaller inner vaginal lips are called the labia minora, and the larger outer vaginal lips are the labia majora. Labiaplasty can be used to fix labial asymmetry, reduce size and thickness, and eliminate darker areas.

This procedure can be cosmetic, meaning relating to the appearance of the labia, and functional, meaning relating to the functionality of the area. If oversized labia impair or inhibit activities such as intercourse, a labiaplasty to correct this could be considered functional.

The labiaplasty procedure typically lasts for around one to two hours. The desired extent of the reshaping impacts the time the procedure will take.

To begin the procedure, in order to make sure the patient does not feel any pain during it, local or general anesthesia will be administered. Small incisions are then created in inconspicuous locations in the labial areas. Excess fatty tissue and skin tissue are both carefully removed. Following this, dissolvable sutures are used to close the incisions. Dressings are then placed over the area.

Some swelling and bruising may result from this procedure. These are only temporary and may last up to three weeks at the most. In order to make sure that the area heals faster, make sure to obey your surgeon’s post-operative care instructions.

Avoid tampon use for the 10 days after labiaplasty surgery. Pad usage is acceptable and can be used to absorb any fluid drainage from the healing incisions. For around six weeks, do not wear g-strings or thong underwear.

After two to five days, you may be ready and healed enough to go back to work. In three weeks, you may be recovered enough to perform physically taxing activities. Since the tissues in the area may still be weakened and more sensitive than usual, do not have sex for three to six weeks following the procedure.

Within three months, the internal sutures will have fully dissolved, and all healing from the labiaplasty will be complete. The labia will look rejuvenated and youthful.
